Aren't nursery rhymes sweet?

So I'm reading a book of Mother Goose nursery rhymes to JJ when I come across this:

Goosey Goosey Gander

Goosey Goosey Gander where shall I wander,
Upstairs, downstairs and in my lady's chamber
There I met an old man who wouldn't say his prayers,
I took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs.

Yikes!

Apparently there was no separation of church and state where poor "Goosey Goosey Gander" lived...

LOL. Well that's a good lesson to teach your kids! Say your prayers... or else!

What I'm getting the laugh at is the old man who wasn't his master, in his lady's chamber, lol.

I have looked through some of those really old Mother Goose nursery rhymes. I'm pretty sure that she was one sick and twisted lady. I bet she would be on some major mood stabilizers in present day.
Do you think she actually spent a lot of time with children? Whose? What ever became of them?
